Passions of the Past Exhibit (Huntsville, AL)

by Jaclyn Hennessey 04 Oct 2024

Stop by the Enchantasys in Huntsville, AL for a very special surprise! This location is now the home of Passions of the Past, a new permanent in-store exhibit that highlights sexuality through the ages. Hear from our Wellness Expert, Toni Kennedy, on this exciting installation.

What is the “Passions of the Past” exhibit all about?

Toni: Passions of the Past is about exploring what we did before. Adult stores are filled with incredible products and many now in 2024 are super techy so when we created this space, we wanted to showcase the origin stories of these toys, lingerie, and sex practices.

What inspired you to create this exhibition?

Toni: I'm a huge nerd and I find all historical facts super interesting. I was at the airport traveling home from a work event and saw these vintage airplanes. I hung out, read everything, and took pictures of all the fun stuff while waiting on my flight. I thought an adult store should have some fun historical information as well!

What’s the oldest thing in this collection?

Toni: Currently its the Oster model M6 scientific Massager Modality Junior dated back to the early 1960's. I'm always hunting rare finds so I hope to find even older pieces and memorabilia to add to the collection!

What’s your personal favorite item in the collection?

Toni: My favorite item well that's very tough but the one I find very amusing is The Queen's Chair. They were used by affluent women during the war, during a time in which as a society we believed that male genitalia would have to be inserted in order for the act to be considered sex, with this logic in place these women would have "tongue slaves" who provided relief during the trying times of war.

Is the display available to the public?

Toni: We encourage the public to ask for a tour by calling or simply stop by the shop and we'll show how incredibly interesting our history is! The Passions of the Past exhibit is also up for our classes and events.

Stop by and visit the Passions of the Past exhibit during our regular business hours.
